Well, I am going to school for Medical Transcription. It is a 18 hr course and you get to work from home. It is in high demand right now and is a load of fun!

  1. Nursing, dental hygiene, radiological tech, physical therapy assistant, accounting, administrative assistant, tend to all be available via community colleges, require only an associates to enter the profession, are in demand in many regions of the US, and pay well. HOWEVER, do not assume that’s what true in another region is true in yours. You need to talk to the community college and find out what’s in demand *in your region*.

This is especially true in medicine right now. The healthcare bill is causing some changes in medical hiring, and you want to find out what’s happening where you live re: this profession, or any other you enter. Colleges keep records of the percentage of their grads in each program that get hired within X months of graduation, salaries, etc. Ask.

Another option, if you’re interested, is the trades. Things like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical are in high demand in a lot of the US, pay well once you get past the apprenticeship, and require less than a year of school via community college trade programs or via the local union itself.
